Two topics of discussion that I have attempted to avoid are money and politics. This is in no way because I am polite and care about the feelings of others. It is merely because my money issues are not the concerns of others and I have been disgusted with politics for quite some time. Normally my opinions are fully expressed and if it offends someone I can't say I would apologize for it. Again, not because I am a cold hearted individual but because I live in a free country with the freedom of speech. At least I thought I did.
We have become a society of political correctness. We must be careful what we say or our free thoughts and opinions may lead us into a law suit. I had no control over what happened hundreds of years ago and do not appreciate it being assumed that my beliefs are reflected by the past. The only thing that I will not tolerate is disrespect to children and the elderly. Anybody in between those life stages can take care of themselves if needed. Notice I did not say only a certain race of children or elderly or a particular gender. However one might try to say I could potentially discriminate against someone who does not fall into that category.
I truly believe we should consider the feelings of others and there is no sense in being cruel to anyone. I merely am stating that each of us should be allowed to express our feelings and opinions without being patrolled by the "police" of political correctness. Let me give you something to ponder. When we stop being able to control our own issues amongst each other, who steps in and dictates the outcome? When we stop respecting the lifestyles, gender, and overall choices of others who steps in and settles the disputes? Are we becoming such a society that can no longer think for themselves? I believe that we are.
Life is much easier when we can blame our faults on something besides ourselves. Lie, cheat, steal and show no respect for others and we slowly become as the democracy that governs us.
